Hyundai unveiled the all new 2024 Kona Electric, Kona Limited and N Line models with a North American debut at the glittering New York International Auto Show. The all-new Hyundai Kona is an upscale player in the compact SUV segment. It's led by an all-electric model with advanced safety, convenience and a somewhat limited initial electric range of 260 miles. The new generation Kona offers a comprehensive package that includes the widest range of powertrains in the small SUV segment.

A big range of choices

Buyers from San Marcos and Vista, CA can select from electric and gas-engine powertrains along with the sporty N Line variation. The all new 2024 Kona is scheduled to arrive at American dealers this summer and the Kona electric will be offered later in the fall. Hyundai created the new Kona platform with an electric powertrain first in keeping with the company’s accelerated electrification approach that will bring 11 new Hyundai electric models to market by 2030.

What's new in the Kona Electric for 2024?

The all-new Kona keeps its iconic character with its rugged, dynamic design and upscale treatment. It offers innovative technology and convenience features to give you a safe, connected and comfortable driving experience. Upgrades include dual, 12.3-inch panoramic display screens, over-the-air software updates, digital Key 2 Touch, and Hyundai's next-generation infotainment system.

The new Kona Electric is equipped with a 64.8-kilowatt battery that provides up to 260 miles of range based on Hyundai's initial testing. Of course, this range is quite a bit below the 412-mile range available in the average gas-powered vehicle but it's the kind of neighborhood that many electric vehicles have to offer.

When it's connected to a charger at home, it takes a little less than 7 hours to fully charge the new 2024 Hyundai Kona electric. That's obviously far longer than the 5 minutes it takes to fill up a gas-powered Hyundai so that's major factor buyers from Poway and Oceanside, CA should keep in mind when you consider buying an electric vehicle at this early stage of development.

Exterior design that's EV-driven

In creating the 2024 Kona, Hyundai moved away from the conventional internal combustion-to-EV platform development process and followed an EV-to-internal combustion development process. The result is a dynamic, EV-centric exterior that provides an unexpected combination of sleek and rugged design. The new Kona utilizes an aerodynamic nose and rear liftgate along with parametric surfaces with dynamic chrome lines connecting the beltline to the rear spoiler. Buyers from Ramona, CA will find the design intriguing.

Specifications for the 2024 Kona Electric

The new Kona Electric has a wheelbase that's 104.7 inches, a length of 171.5 inches and a width of 71.9 inches. It's 62.2 inches in height, offering 39.9 inches of headroom in the front row and 38.3 inches in the back. You also get 41.7 inches of leg room in front and 36.4 inches of legroom in the rear. Shoulder room is 56.8 inches in front and 55.2 inches in the rear, and the trunk gives you 25.5 cubic feet of storage space.

A more spacious and versatile interior

Hyundai created a large interior living space that accommodates a wider range of customer lifestyles. The front row is centered on the driver and is highlighted by a floating horizontal C-Pad with two integrated 12.3-inch panoramic displays that underscore Kona’s edge in high technology.
