If you're living in an eligible San Diego County zip code that has a disadvantaged community, you may be eligible. In addition, your income must meet program eligibility requirements, which is 300% of the Federal poverty level. Beyond that, your vehicle must be a 2009 model or older, it must be in your name, weigh less than 10,000 pounds and it must be operational in California over the last two years. In addition, you must be a new applicant as determined by an IRS filing and you must have a valid California driver's license.

The application process

First, you have to complete an application to verify your eligibility based on the guidelines that are briefly described above, although not all details are included. You can bring your old vehicle to an authorized dismantler to verify vehicle requirements. If you meet the eligibility requirements and you are qualified to receive a grant, you'll get an award letter from the San Diego Clean Cars 4 All program. Once you're approved and your new vehicle or your mobility option is in your possession, you can take your old car to an approved dismantler and that's where it will be scrapped.
